Labor day is coming! Not the holiday but the event after 9 months of pregnancy. Labor and childbirth is one anticipated event that happens “in its own timing,” (minus human interventions).
Where is the strength and power of a woman in labor? It is not in herself, for she is a weak vessel. Her grace and strength lies in God. All laboring mothers should seek God’s help. Pray, sing hymns, speak and believe in God’s promises. Together, they will get every woman through her pain.
Since labor is controlled by nature and every birth is unique, what can be expected. Women can experience hours (even days) of contractions before they get to the intense labor. So how can you tell the difference between real and false labor? Pay attention to the following labor signs:
TRUE LABOR SIGNS
•Rhythmic, painful uterine contractions,
•Constant lower back pains
•Feeling a wave of heat
•Nausea or vomiting
•Increase of vaginal discharge
•Stomach churning sensation
•Sight of blood
•Bowel movements
•Burning sensation in vagina
•Having the urge to push
•Persistent backache
Are you crying over labor? John 16:21 says its acceptable. “A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.”
In the end, it’s difficult to predict exactly what your labor will feel like and how long it will last. But knowing the signs which indicate that it’s finally begun will make you feel more confident about what’s ahead. The expectant mother should relax and not go beyond her supply lines i.e., panicking, worrying. Remember God has delivered you in the past from situations, hence, realize “God is in control!”
